Higher Education Going Tech? Are You Ready For A Peek Of Higher Education in 2020? [Infographic]
By now we are ALL aware of how Digital Marketing has taken the world by storm. We really don’t think about it because it was a process that happened so gradually. One minute we were flipping through the Fall Preview Guide of the TV Guide to see all of the next seasons shows and the next thing we know, we are viewing that edition ONLINE.
I was recently having a discussing about things and I mentioned to the person about the changes that have occured and how quickly. They gave me a puzzled look until I used the TV Guide Analogy. We have really quite literally been taken over by Digital Media. We use mobile phones for conversations, taking pictures, interacting with people and occasionally even talking on it. 
Although I prefer traditional paper books, the sales of traditionally books have been on a steady decline due to the increasing popularity of book readers like Nook, Kindle and iPad. We have come a long way baby!
There will be NO industry left untouched by this historical growth of technology. One of the industries that I would love to be enveloped, altered and changed for the better by this amazing Digital Technology boom is Education! I just had a conversation that started with politics and ended with education that detailed how education needs to be pulled from the manufacturing era into the technology era. Well, due to the growth of this technology era, I believe it’s a possibility and I would LOVE to see how things could evolve.

As Technology Advances Will Your IT Department Be Destined For The #Cloud
This week, I’ve had an opportunity to have quite a few conversations with people in the technology industry that have very opposing viewpoints than I. Most of the people that are in my circles are very tech focused and on top of the industry and its variety of changes. Further, they all really see the technology industry as a way to benefit the masses and to be used as a tool for social good. Basically in a way to spread knowledge and resources throughout the world for the better good of the masses. This is not at all a self serving way to view technology but more of a way to assist many in a variety of ways through education, engaging and interaction. This is in fact the way I view it as well so it is great that I have the opportunity to interact with those that feel the same.
I am very unfamiliar with technology and social media used primarily in a self serving way. I am not a pollyanna by any stretch but I DO view technology and social media as an opportunity to reach the masses in order to invoke positive change. So imagine my surprise when during a conversation points were brought up that were very self serving about minimizing technological grow to insure ones own agenda. Say What? I think.
A huge part of this conversation was how technology could soon be going to The Cloud and the reprecussions to IT departments. Ok, I do get that transition can be hard although for myself as an early adopter of new technologies I tend to throw myself in to technology changes not resist. So to me Cloud Computing is an awesome thing, it will open avenues in technology that had been closed and on a huge scale. Cloud computing to me is a natural transition to the growth of mobile and the demands to be a more global and mobile world.
To me the thought or resistiing something as essential to our technological growth as Cloud computing in efforts to self preserve is not only ludicris but not to intelligent. Wouldn’t it be simpler to expand your horizons, go with the flow, embrace and learn this technology if you are in fear of losing a position due to the growth of Cloud Computing. As an early adopter, I would be jumping into learning as much about Cloud Computing, especially if I were in an IT field.
I do so hope that it is the exception and not the norm to resist new technologies as I do not see the growth slowing down anytime soon. I see Cloud Computing as a great opportunity for businesses and employees. What do you think? Do you think Cloud Computing will effect IT departments in a negative way?

#Cloud Computing & Smacking Down Old School Organizational Structures
I recently wrote about organizations with old school marketing departments and how they will be soon rendered useless. Well, I think I was less harsh with the phrasing, however you all know what I mean. Well, if you think beyond the Marketing Departments of these organizations you will realize that companies and organizations that have held on to an old school way of marketing are usually holding on to an old school way of doing business as well.
Old school organizational structures are a thing of the past. This is primarily due to the growth of technology, social media and companies becoming more global. As technology grows so does the mindset of employees and potential employees. This can present a challenge to organziations if they are running the company as they did in 1980. We will not even discuss companies that have not changed their way of operating since the 1960′s or before.
Times have changed, people have changed, technology has changed and companies have to adapt their business structure accordingly. Some technology changes that have had the biggest impact on workers are mobile technologies. These technologies allow workers to think outside of The CUBE. This means that options for talented employees will grow due to the ability to become more mobile with the growth of technology. Technology is allowing employees to think outside of their immediate commutable area because they are reaching the point in technology growth that they will no longer be limited by distance. Mobile technology is allowing this to happen right before our eyes. The advancement in computer technologies which has brought us Tablets and Smartphones has moved us that much closer to true mobility in workplace or workforce I should say.

Cloud computing is one of the final pieces of the puzzle that will allow employees to be totally mobile. This is HUGE for employees because it will allow them to unchain themselves from their cubicle. This is a great thing for employees that are thinking of expanding their opportunities. However this may present challenges to the old school organization that have not remained abreast of the growth in technologies.
Cloud computing will allow workplaces to essential remove the need to have a huge server/computer room which is currently used for maintaining data storage and integrity. Cloud computing allows this data to be stored in “The Cloud” which allows the information to be ready accessible by all with permission to utilize it. Can we say HUGE??
If companies are able to implement this properly it will allow employees to be cubicle-less and totally mobile. Although this is huge for employees because it would allow them the ability to work from home, work from the beach, work from a little bistro in Italy if they choose. This can also benefit employers as well.
Companies can view this as a negative as some old school organizations may, but it can be viewed as a positive for companies as well. As an organization that is receptive to change, has embraced new technologies, and a change in organizational structure this will give them the opportunity to scout talent beyond the local area. This means increasing the chances of implementing a more global employee base. The ability to grab the best and most talent employees from any location in the world will increase with the acceptance of Cloud Computing. Again, this is HUGE.
So ultimately everyone can view these technological advancements as a win win for all. Cloud Computing is a game changer to employees and employers. How we chose to view these changes will determine how we adapt moving forward as employees and employers.

Tablets, #Cloud Computing and #SemanticWeb Will Change How Organizations Do Business
Technology has touched practically every aspect or our lives, but has had the greatest impact on businesses and organizations. We cannot go a day without having contact with some form of technology, whether its laptops, mobile phones , tech gadgets or other forms of Internet Technology.
Organizations are really in a unique position as they can view the technology changes as a positive or a negative. One of the challenges to organizations is the rate at which technology is growing and implementing strategies to keep up with the changes. For individuals it is a bit easier, but for organizations adapting to the growth of technology it is a bit more complicated and I do not anticipate it becoming easier as time goes by.
A few things that will really change organizations in the very near future is Tablets, Cloud Computing and Semantic Web. These technologies will offer a workforce and workplace flexibility that we have never experienced before because these technologies will allow a lot more mobility.
Tablets are becoming really mainstream because they offer the ability to use technology anytime and anyplace. Tablets allow the mobility of a cellular phone but the capabilities of a traditional computer. As tablets expand with newer and more exciting bells and whistles the popularity will increase. When popularity of items increase they become more mainstream which can act to drive the price down. Soon everyone will have tablets and more organizations will be forced to adapt to tablet usage. This will be the beginning of a new kind of workplace that includes employees with the ability to be more mobile than ever before. This will change the employees perception of the workplace as well as how organizations function. Organizations will have to adapt to a much different structure based on the growth of a more mobile workforce.

Cloud Computing has the potential to be HUGE and when fully realized will turn the work place, as we know it upside down. In the earlier days of technology, when organizations incorporated technology by way of desktop computers, servers, storage and other computer technology was needed to take care of the large amounts of data stored. The growth of Cloud Computing eliminates the need for data storage located in onsite computer rooms by creating information storage in The Cloud. This too creates a huge opportunity for companies to implement a much more mobile workspace and workforce.
Semantic Web is something that is not in our immediate future but will definitely take technology to another level. With the growth of so many different technologies at such a super quick rate of speed we have become inundated with an abundance of data. All of this data is in different formats, are using different programs and applications so there are a lot of incompatibility issues. With the implementation of Semantic Web, data will be created and or recreated to be more compatible. So data will be created in a compatible way which would eventually allow the technologies to communicate, literally. That ROCKS!
So as individuals we can view all of these things as super cool and consider the implications that they will have to our personal technology and gadgets. However as an organization, this his huge and will definitely have a huge effect on how things are run now and in the future. So as business owners we must start to educate ourselves on some of these technolgies so that we will be ready to implement them WHEN the time comes.
The growth of technology is very exciting to individuals but can create challenges to organizations, education is the best way to prepare for coming changes.
